How to prepare artwork for laser marking

Clean vectors and readable code sizes save days. Follow this checklist before you courier parts.

Preferred file types

Vector: AI, SVG, DXF, DWG, PDF with live outlines. Flatten or outline fonts.

Raster PNG/JPG can work for simple marks but often need redraw for crisp logos.

Line weight and fills

Hairline strokes can vanish or look broken after marking. Keep critical strokes thick enough for the mark size.

Large solid fills take more machine time; consider outlined logos for branding.

Codes and text

Provide exact code payload and scanner type. Respect quiet zones. Tiny DataMatrix on rough finishes may not scan — we will flag size limits.

Avoid ultra-light fonts for serials under 2 mm height unless proven on a sample.

Part photos

Send clear photos of the marking area, any curves, and existing finishes. Fixture needs become obvious from geometry.
